Article: It feels like the 2000s have returned, though reimagined.

It feels like the 2000s have returned, though reimagined.

Leela Rosa revives the 2000s aesthetic with her electronic alt-pop sound, which feels both familiar and new at the same time. Although her sound is distinctly her own, it does echo artists who have explored this aesthetic in music before her. Oklou comes to mind with her electronic ad-libs and melodies, as well as the alternative approaches of FKA twigs and Imogen Heap. We were even surprised to hear touches of UK breakbeat influences.

With her first solo release dating back to 2024, Leela is new to the scene, yet she delivers her music with the confidence of someone who has been around for years. It feels like she understands the essence of the craft while still exploring who she wants to become as her artistic identity continues to take shape, drawing from both newly discovered influences and a reimagining of the classic feeling of the early days of the internet.

She not only explores this in her music, but also extends the aesthetic to her visuals and online presence, immersing her audience in a nostalgic universe where she shares creative thoughts and connects with listeners.

Leela Rosa’s journey within the music scene has only just begun. The Rotterdam-based artist has yet to reach a wider audience, but for us, it’s not a question of if, it’s a matter of when. Apophenia is the first single of a new project she´s been working on, an EP with the second single coming up in may. We’re excited to keep following her journey and discover more of her reimagined 2000s-inspired universe.
